Historical Details

On July 18th, 1936, revolts by right wing military officers would successfully occupy Morocco. They had acted in fear due to speculation that the current liberal government would give in to the Marxist revolution within Spain. Francisco Franco, a strict Monarchist would believe the conspiracy to be true, and would join the revolt. In 1937, with a civil war in full swing, Spain would be divided. The liberal government lead by Manuel Azana, and the Nationalist revolt lead by Francisco Franco. In many cities, locals and militias would engage Francisco's forces and stall their advance, but in many occasions, the Republicans would refuse to supply the local populace with firearms, giving the Nationalist a much easier strategy of occupation for those cities. Both parties would realize that the war could not be won quickly, and would soon seek international help. The Republican government would gain material and volunteer support from countries like Mexico, the United States, France and the Soviet Union. While the Nationalist revolt would receive direct military assistance from Italy, Germany and Portugal.
