Historical Details

On October 28th 1940, Italy would demand free passage and total occupation of unstated strategic points in Greece. Ioannis Metaxas, prime minister of Greece, would reject this request, firing off the Greco-Italo War. What Italian high command believed to be a swift and unchallenging invasion, turned into a long and arduous campaign. Italian forces would see successes on their front in Albania and Greece, but their advances would soon halt due to supply shortages, lack of modern tactics, and incompetent leadership. This played perfectly to the Hellenic Army's advantage and Greece would soon launch a Counter offensive, retaking lost territory and in some areas, pushing 50 Kilometers (31 miles) into Albania. The war would only come to an end when fresh German soldiers and well organized divisions would penetrate an exhausted and underequipped Greek  frontline. By April 23rd, Greece would be fully occupied by Axis powers. Greece's contributions would not end at her capitulation, resistance and guerilla war would continue until Axis occupation ended, some of the Greek Army would escape to North Africa, and would fight under the British as an exiled army.
